ROSWELL, Ga. (MyFOX Atlanta) - Lots of muscle flexing going on at The entire Roswell High School football team, parents, coaches and the Hornet faithful braved the bad weather for some good-old fashioned fun Saturday morning at their inaugural Strong Man contest.
The contest was about pushing yourself to the limit, carrying your own weight, but also knowing that your team has your back.
"That's very important. There's nothing like camaraderie. Kids have to, not like each other, play together, encourage each other. This is what it's about," said Hornets Head Coach Leo Barker.
There were four teams, four events, a scorers table and the added pressure of being on the clock.
There was even a celebrity guest, New Orleans Saints and former Roswell Hornets Chris Reis. He said through the competition, the players are creating something special; they don't even know it yet.
"When you workout together, you form a bond. And this is a huge thing. It's a huge thing to be able to workout together, to really form that chemistry that needs to be there in order to achieve a championship team. They're doing a great job," said Reis.
When the boosters came up with the idea for the contest, it was originally supposed to be a fundraiser for the 2009 football season. After Saturday's turnout, the boosters realized it was bigger than a fundraiser.
"We have participation by every player's family. As team mom, it's my job to motivate these parents to support their players for a successful football team. We are leaving a legacy for Roswell High School football," said parent organizer Leslie Heres.
The next fundraiser is the Annual Spring Golf Tournament, which will be held once again at Brookfield Country Club. Be sure to get your team registered if you haven't done so already!
